Strangers in the night

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 31; the thirty-first edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton. The theme for the month is 'Strangers in the Night

It's that night which was after a beautiful day. It's the night which was lit up by stars. The man walked briskly in the cold night, to rest at his very own home. On opening the gate, he found an animal with no human nature, he instantly kicked it away, being unhuman. He stepped into the house and lit up the fire place. Unfortunately, the fire set ablaze spreading to the roof, the animal started to bark loud enough to alert the neighbors. Neighbors with that strange dog saved this man's life. The man lost his humanity, kicked the dog away thinking why to shelter a stranger, but the non human creature thought of helping that same stranger.
Even a non-human can remind us of our humanity, as it happened in this case with strangers at that night.

  5. Nice, short and sweet. Have had similar personal experience with a stray animal. So I could relate to it.

  6. This reminded my of a story of Leo Tolstoy, where rich father gets a poor man thrown out of motel, to get a room for the night, and in the morning lad was found dead at motel gate due to severe cold. The cries of rich man were louder, when it came to be known lad was his only son, whom he was looking for.
    Really great point raised.

  8. A very nice idea behind & totally different, felt bad for the dog which got kicked out. In fact it would have guarded the man's house against thieves etc, if given shelter. Dog always has been a faithful animal, & your story proves yet another aspect of good nature of animals which we don't appreciate usually. Also, you don't need to bring in the word or theme in every line you write, just once suffices the need. Actually if reader gets an idea of theme its enough, Blogaton expects the exact phrase in this case though !
Looking forward for more such short-stories.

  19. That's a short one. Not everyone's like that but yes for people too busy in their own world sometimes pausing to take a deep breath and reassure oneself of their own morality doesn't hurt.
